Fried Calamari

Serves 2

  • 1 lb (450g) fresh calamari rings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika (optional)
  • 1 cup cold sparkling water
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)
  • Marinara sauce (for dipping, optional)

Way to cook:

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper, and paprika. Gradually add the sparkling water, stirring until the mixture is smooth.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Dip calamari rings into the batter, shake off excess, and carefully drop them into the hot oil. Fry in small batches for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.
  4. Remove the calamari and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Serve hot with lemon wedges and marinara sauce for dipping, if desired.
